Primary angiosarcoma of the adrenal gland is both a rare and aggressive malignancy. Differentiating it from more common adrenal masses such as adrenal adenomas, adrenal cortical carcinomas, and metastatic carcinomas is one of several diagnostic challenges. Immunohistochemical analysis is imperative to arrive at the correct diagnosis. Treatment typically involves surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy, but prognosis remains poor.
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a procedure commonly used for weight loss associated with improved outcomes and decreased complications when compared to some counterparts. The procedure involves restriction of the stomach that is achieved by creation of a gastric pouch and bypass of the duodenum and a portion of the jejunum to aid in restrictive and malabsorptive weight loss. While many complications, both early and late, have been described following the procedure, recurrent perihepatic abscess has not been described in the literature. We present a case of a 66-year-old woman with recurrent extrahepatic abscesses following revision of a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
Anthracyclines are an effective chemotherapy agent. However, very few cases of idarubicin-induced cardiomyopathy exist. Herein, we describe a case of first-dose idarubicin-related acute heart failure in a woman with a history of myelodysplastic syndrome converted to acute myeloid leukaemia.
We report a 62-year-old woman in the intensive care unit who developed hematochezia. Her endoscopic findings revealed diffusely bleeding esophageal ulcers related to herpes simplex virus. The bleeding was treated successfully with Hemospray.
Mesenteric venous thrombosis (MVT) is an uncommon, but increasingly recognized, cause of intestinal ischemia. Presenting signs and symptoms are nonspecific, and diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion. We present the case of a 33-year-old woman who was transferred to our hospital for the management of a jejunal bezoar resulting in small bowel obstruction. She was found to have MVT that was complicated by intestinal infarction and perforation. This case emphasizes the need to consider MVT in the differential diagnosis of small bowel obstruction, as earlier diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications and improve outcomes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
