Research suggests that home-school collaboration is successful when it involves all elements of the parent-teacher-student triangle. However, Slovenian schools do not practice three-way conferences, since students, who are a crucial part of the collaboration, are often excluded from the process. This paper presents the results of a study conducted in two classes of Year 4 (9 Years old students) at a Slovenian primary school (experimental and control group). The study focused on identifying the effect of involving students in parent-teacher collaboration through three-way conferences. The findings revealed that these conferences contributed to the improved level of student motivation to do schoolwork.
Social changes lead to changes in cooperation between school and parents. This cooperation has become more necessary and intensive. The most desirable form of cooperation between school and parents is a partnership between them. Features of the partnership cooperation are two-way communication, mutual support, making decision together and promotion of learning. This can be achieved if teachers have well-developed communication competencies. In the article I discuss them as essential competencies of a teacher that enable good cooperation of an educational institution with parents. Communication is a social interaction. It shows the way and quality of the relationship between the participants in communication. If schools strive for good communication competencies of their employees, especial for teachers, they can expect positive responses from parents. This contributes to the optimal development of the child.
The success of solving conflicts and problems in various areas of social life significantly depends on appropriate (appropriateness) communication - in daily personal contacts of individuals, in the family, the wider community, in the management of public affairs, in the field of economic activities, in the provision of public goods, in the field of education, etc. The paper deals with a specific area of communication and application of modern concepts and communication skills in the field of cooperation between students, parents and teachers in the education of students at the primary level of education. It is an institute of three-way conferences, which is a regular practice in several countries, but not in Slovenia. The article points out that in the preparation and implementation of these conversations it is necessary to take into account and use them sensibly - in addition to the findings in the field of pedagogical communication - also adapted to school activities approaches, concepts and findings in the field of business communication.
Stress is an unpleasant state of emotional and physiological upset that people experience in situations they perceive as dangerous or threatening. On the one hand, moderate stress can improve motivation and performance in less complex tasks, while on the other hand, prolonged and severe stress hinders the performance of difficult tasks. Children at school and adults at work are challenged with solving different problems. In both cases, the individual (child or adult) feels stress because if he is not sure, whether he has enough skills to cope with the problem or task. The most often school-related stress is caused by grades, parental pressure and bullying. Bullying relates either to bad relationships with classmates or teachers. At work, the individual most often feels stress due to a lack of skills, excessive workload, low support from colleagues or a gap between the effort invested and the reward for it.
