this article mainly focuses on the method and solution of Geosciences Data Network Sharing. We put forward a solution for GDS (Geosciences Data Sharing) based on SOA (ServiceOriented Architectures) & Web Services. The services in Geosciences Data Sharing are described with WSDL (Web Services Description Language) in our solution. And users can access data transparently from Data Sharing Platform and access the data services correspondingly. Since Service-Oriented Architecture is applied, we can not only create new services bus, but also can continue utilizing the investment in IT before by wrapping these existing assets as services that provide geographic business functions. Considering from the down-top hierarchy model, the following coarse-grained technology layers are implemented in our solution: 1) Database layer; 2) Data Bus layer; 3) GSB layer (Geographical Service Bus); 4) Web Client layer. Corresponding to coarse-grained technology layers, there is a cohesive set of fine-grained modules written in Java. Part of these modules in GDS have been developed and successfully applied in the Data Center for Resources & Environmental Sciences in East China as a key project of Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has been proved GDS based SOA & Web Services can provide more efficient geosciences information services than traditional methods.
