This paper presents a preliminary study for the removal of COD and suspended solids in wastewater treatment by combining magnetic field and electrocoagulation (EC) technology. The experiments were carried out using batch apparatus and setup in the static method. Batch experiments with two monopolar iron (Fe) plate anodes and cathodes were employed as electrodes. Wastewater samples were prepared from milk powder with an initial COD of 1,140 mgL(-1) and suspended solids of 1,400 mgL(-1) and acidic conditions were employed (pH approximately 3). DC current was varied from 0.5-0.8 A and operating times were between 30 and 50 min. The results show that the effluent wastewater was very clear (turbidity approximately 9 NTU) and its quality exceeded the direct discharge standard. The suspended solids and COD removal efficiencies were as high as 30.6 and 75.5%, respectively. In addition, the experimental results also show that the electrocoagulation could neutralise the pH of wastewater.
This paper investigates the effect of electrocoagulation (EC) process on the removal of suspended solids (SS) from wastewater. In a batch electrochemical cell experimental set up, two monopolar iron (Fe) plate were used as electrodes (anodes and cathodes). Synthetic wastewater, made of milk powder with concentration of 700 mg/L, was treated using 1M HCl for pH adjustment before it was used as electrolyte. Preliminary results show that the EC process is able to enhance the removal of suspended solid, turbidity and carbon oxygen demand in wastewater. The removal rates of those elements were increase with treatment time.
Education has become one of the strategic ways in revitalizing the character of students to form the character of learners having a personal character of the 21st century, such as teenagers must have the ability to cooperate, have personal and social responsibilities, and be able to communicate interactively. Besides, they must be able to balance technological progress and social change, have leadership character, personal responsibility, and ethics. It becomes the driving force that the education process in the formal education path must consistently involve the affective domain and not just focus on the cognitive and psychomotor aspects. This research is a development of Brog and Gall research that learning in the 21st century requires an affective touch. This study uses a quantitative approach and descriptive method with data analysis techniques with descriptive statistics. The population is Indonesian and Korean students who take Engineering Service Learning with the number of 30 people. The results of this study indicate that the Engineering Service Learning process can build critical and creative thinking by 90.25%; increase motivation by 90.51%; and build cooperation character by 85.71%.
