The present thesis studies the possibility of using metal foam in diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems. The introductory section describes the properties of the metal foam and makes a comparison with the ceramic materials used as substrates of aftertreatment devices. In order to introduce the non-familiar reader, the first chapter includes a short description of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
