The present study looks at the use of educational computer programs in professional training of students majoring in Philology. It highlights the urgency for new approaches to improve the educational process in response to the requirements of present realities. This study draws upon extensive corpus research on the use of innovative technologies in education. The findings reveal that there are certain differences in the application of this technology in teaching abroad and in the Ukrainian pedagogical practices. It was established that implementation of educational computer programs, in contrast with traditional teaching methods, has potential benefits as well as certain limitations. This research substantiates the importance of considering these factors when aiming to improve professional skills of future teachers and their linguistic competences. The conclusions drawn from the research findings allow providing recommendations concerning the improvement of professional training of foreign language teachers by means of educational computer programs.
The article considers the issue of educational computer program development: the stages, blocks, aspects and peculiarities. The definition of an educational computer program as a means of information and communication technologies, created for the development of skills and abilities related to foreign language competence is given taking into account the psycholinguistic patterns of reading a text, methodical approach to teaching reading fiction via information and communication technologies . It was distinguished that educational computer program as a software for educational purposes can be offered as a system consisting of two main components: informational and software implementation. The development of educational computer programs suitable for educational institutions involves continuous interaction between the author of educational materials and the programmer. The process of creating a qualitative educational computer programme consists of certain stages: preparation of source materials; development of the programme structure of educational computer program; creation of a software product; aligning and adjustment; implementation of educational computer program; testing software product; educational computer program updating and error correction. The article describes the created educational program "English for Philologists: aspect of reading" that meets the criteria of correspondence and the criteria for evaluating computer programs for teaching foreign languages taking into account the peculiarities of digital text. The experimental introduction of the computer program «English for Philologists: aspect of reading», comparison of the average indicators of pre- and post-experimental sections in experimental groups and the growth by12% have showed that the training for future teachers of English language reading fiction via the educational computer programme «English for Philologists: aspect of reading» has proved to be effective: all the groups have reached the required level of reading comprehension.

The article deals with the aspect of competency-based education, determines the main stages of its development. The stages of development of the competence approach are considered, the essence of the concepts of "competence", "professional competence", "communicative competence", "foreign language communicative competence", "language competence" and "readership competence" of future foreign language teachers are determined. The objective factors of the relevance on forming the readership competence of future foreign language teachers at the pedagogical level are highlighted. The article distinguishes the necessity to prepare future foreign language teachers for the conscious use of hypertext and multimedia, to the ability to independently apply software for processing text, tabular, graphical information, to work in computer networks in accordance with educational and professional tasks specific for the university. It was proved that the readership competence is of paramount importance, since effective solving of professional-pedagogical tasks is impossible without knowledge, skills and abilities of foreign language reading, operation of the information received from the text. The key role in the contemporary world is played by the degree of information accessibility, the results of extraction, analysis, processing and assignment of data, significantly increase the requirements for comprehension and reflection of texts, to the processing of their content to achieve personal and professional goals, which is largely determined by the level of readership skills development, the formation of readership competence. Objective factors of the relevance of the work on developing the readership competence of future foreign language teachers at the socio-pedagogical level are directly related to the effects of informatization. The spread of new forms of information representation in writing (databases, the Internet, e-books, etc.), the emergence of automated libraries with electronic catalogs caused the objective need for mastering this non-traditional information field in the educational process of the university from the standpoint of pedagogical approach. Therefore, it is necessary to study in detail the content and structure of readership competence of future foreign language teachers.
