Introduction. Obesity is a major factor for cardiometabolic risk. However, there is a category of obese patients without disorders of lipid, carbohydrate metabolism and cardiovascular disease metabolically healthy obese (MHO). Aim. Our goal was to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of this phenotype compared to patients with metabolic syndrome (MS). Materials and methods. To evaluate the prevalence of the MHO phenotype we analyzed 389 medical records of females aged 1860 years with obesity. Three types of MHO criteria were used: 1) HOMA index (2.7); 2) IDF-criteria of metabolic syndrome, 2005; 3) the BioSHaRE-EU 2013 criteria (obese patients without any symptoms of MS). We conducted a comparative analysis of anthropometry, status of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, the functional state of the liver. Results. The MHO prevalence was: 34.5% according to HOMA index, according to the definitions of MS 2005 38.6%, in BioSHaRE-EU 9.6%. In groups of MHO and MS dyslipidemia was observed in 27.3 and 49.5% (p0.05), hypertension in 25% and 71.6% (p0.05), steatogepatosis in 47.7% vs 51.3% (p0.05) of observations, respectively. Among comorbidities the gynecological pathology was most prevalent - 50.8 and 61.4% (p0.05), disorders of carbohydrate metabolism differed significantly in frequency- 6.82 and 39.1% of patients (p0.05). Patients with MHO had a shorter duration of the existence of obesity than MS (18.7 vs. 24 years) (p=0.0004) and less likely to have attempted to reduce weight 85.8% and 91.6%. Average BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, insulin basal, basal C-peptide, HOMA index in groups of MHO and MS differed significantly (p0.05). Median ALT was 20 and 23.2 U/l, AST 20 and 23 U/l, triglycerides 1.1 and 1.8 mmol/l, high-density lipoprotein 1.4 and 1.1 mmol/l, respectively. Conclusions. The MHO prevalence was maximal according to the MS definitions from 2005, and minimal with BioSHaRE-EU criteria. The main analyzed indicators differed significantly in groups MHO and MS. Longer obesity existence in the MS group may suggest an instability of MHO phenotype over time.
The paper presents the analyses of polluted sediments north-western part of the Caspian Sea, also considered persistent organic pollutants (SOZ), which have a great impact on the quality of the marine environment of the Caspian Sea. ABSTRACT.Aim. The pollution of the bottom sediments in the north-western part of the Caspian sea hydrocarbons and persistent organic pollutants. Location.Caspian Sea. Methods. The materials for this article is based on the results of monitoring conducted in 2012-2013 years. Results. Sediments in the north-western part of the Caspian Sea as a whole slightly contaminated YV and SOZ, although localized areas of high pollution are marked, especially characteristic of the Middle Caspian. Mainconclusions.The studies were showed, PAY in the sediments are mixed genesis, but most of them, in all probability, were petroleum origin. The not weathered hydrocarbons are presented in sediments, which indicates to the presence of the local sources of the fresh oil pollution on the surveyed area.
Linear and weight growth of pike perch in the Amur River estuary is considered using the data on age determined for 197 specimens. The growth is described by von Bertalanffy and Schmalhausen equations. Some biological parameters of pike perch as the maximum size, age of mass maturation, etc. are calculated using the age-differentiated coefficients of natural mortality. The growth and biological parameters of pike perch in the Amur estuary are compared with the same parameters of this species in the Amur River at Khabarovsk. Recently 3 ecological forms of pike perch are distinguished in the Amur basin: i) riverine ecotype self-redistributed from Lake Khanka, ii) lacustrine ecotype in the lower Amur River, and iii) highly productive semi-anadromous marime ecotype in the Amur estuary. The 3rd phase of pike perch acclimatization is observed now in the Amur estuary known as the «bloom» phase accompanied with prominent increasing of population abundance and individual growth rate acceleration. Pike perch prey in this area mainly on juveniles of non-anadromous and diadromous fish, or on pond smelt Hypomesus olidus during their concentration in the estuary in winter.
Current status of aquatic biological resources in the middle and lower parts of the Amur River basin, including Lake Khanka and the Amursky Liman, is assessed. Generally high abundance of the water organisms is noted, but a downward trend is revealed. In 2015–2019, the total annual catch in the basin by Russian fishermen changed between 15.9–69.6 . 103 t (on average 39.1 . 103 t), with the main portions of pacific salmons (31.9 . 103 t, or 81.6 % of total catch) and smelts (5.5 . 103 t, 14.1 %). After the peak in 2016, the salmons abundance in the Amur has decreased, particularly for summer chum salmon and pink salmon, the number of arctic rainbow smelt Osmerus dentex has decreased gradually in the last 3 years. The stocks of freshwater fish are generally stable, with a slight increase for some species. The program of fisheries research «Amur River Fishes» implemented for 2020–2024 includes intensifying of traditional monitoring of the stocks and their biological state, as well as organization of detailed comprehensive studies for key species. Improvement of data quality on status of the main stocks of pacific salmons, smelts, and freshwater fishes is planned, as the basis for fisheries forecasting. Besides, the program conducts quantitative assessment of the main components of the ecosystem (phyto- and zooplankton, macrozoobenthos, and fish) and their dependence on environmental changes. State of food base for the Amur fish will be evaluated, including the feeding of artificially reproduced juveniles of salmons and sturgeons. Results of these studies will allow to improve approaches to regulation of fishery and to promote development of fishery industry toward organization of effective fishery complex in the Amur River basin.
