This study was conducted to develop new crossbred pig using Korean native pig and Duroc. Fifteen pigs of pure Duroc (D) and 26 crossbred gilts (15 of DK1 and 11 of DK2) were reared until 195 ± 5 days old, then slaughtered at local slaughterhouse. Pork loin was gathered and vacuum packed from left carcass after 24 h of slaughter to analyze meat quality traits, such as color, pH, water holding capacity (WHC), cooking loss and shear force (SF), and free fatty acid composition. Live weight and carcass weight of Duroc and DK1 were 119.1±8.7 / 82.91±6.1kg and 116.3±6.3 / 80.91±4.4 kg, respectively, and it was significantly higher than those of DK2 (104.7±8.4 / 71.36±5.7 kg) (p<0.05).There was no significant difference in proximate composition between animal groups, however DK2 showed significantly lower shear force (SF) and higher water holding capacity (WHC) than other groups (p<0.05). The redness of DK2 also showed significantly higher than Duroc (p<0.05), however there was no significant difference in lightness and yellowness (p>0.05). DK1 showed the highest monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) contents of 51.45±2.0% and DK2 showed the highest polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) contents of 8.98±1.4%, however there was no significantly difference in PUFA/SFA ratio between pig groups (p>0.05). Duroc and DK2 contain significantly higher amount of linoleic (7.99±1.2 and 8.11±1.3%, respectively) and linolenic acid (0.43±0.1 and 0.44±0.1%, respectively) than DK1, and DK1 contains significantly higher amount of oleic acid (47.32±1.8%) than others (p<0.05).
This study compared the food quality of domesticated(RT-DS) and freshwater (RT-F) rainbow trouts Oncorhynchus mykiss. The proximate composition of RT-DS was 73.8% moisture, 20.6% crude protein, 4.2% crude lipid, and 1.1% ash and was similar to RT-F. No differences were found in the red color, odor and taste intensities, calcium, and potassium between RT-DS and RT-F based on the Hunter a values, volatile basic nitrogen content, odor intensity and using an electronic nose, and taste intensity using an electronic tongue. The crude protein, total amino acid contents, and taurine, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine and anserine contents in free amino acids were higher in RT-DS than in RT-F. There was no difference in hardness between RT-DS and RT-F.
In large liquid crystal displays, the image quality in an oblique viewing direction is a crucial issue. From this perspective, 8-domain polymer-stabilized vertical alignment (PS-VA) mode has been developed to suppress the color shift in oblique viewing directions, compared to that in 4-domain PS-VA mode. To realize the 8-domain PS-VA, the four domains in a pixel are each divided into two regions, such that applying different electric potentials result in different tilt angles in these two regions, while keeping four azimuthal directions in each domain. However, applying different voltages in a pixel causes drawbacks, such as requiring additional processes to construct a capacitor and a transistor, which will further reduce the aperture ratio. Here we propose a different approach to form the 8-domain, by controlling surface polar anchoring energy and the width of patterned electrodes in two regions of a pixel. As a result, the gamma-distortion index (GDI), measured at an azimuthal angle of 0°, is reduced by about 23% and 8%, compared to that of a conventional 4-domain at polar angles of 30° and 60° respectively.
:The cause of infertility is either fertilization failure or early embryonic death. The aetiology may involve a combination of many factors, e.g. genetic factors, abnormalities in the gametes nutritional disorders, inadequate luteal function, and delayed ovulation. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of microorganisms collected from uterus of Hanwoo cattle on early embryonic development.
Microorganisms isolated from the uterus of Hanwoo cattle included Bacillus cereus (Bc), Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), Staphylococcus warneri (Sw) and Enterococcus faecalis (Ef).When cultured with Bc, Bt, Sw, and Ef, oocytes were not developed into a blastocyst in vitro. The proportion of blastocyst was dramatically increased after reducing the number of microorganisms (10 4 CFU/ml). Interestingly, the proportion of blastocyst was decreased by adding the Sw and Ef. These results indicate that among intrauterine microorganisms, Sw and Ef strains negatively affect theearly embryonic development, thereby aggravate the rates of implantation and pregnancy. These findings will provide useful information for association studies in other pig populations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
