This is an Open-Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0) which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.For the more accurate prediction on manoeuvring performance of a ship at initial design phase, bare hull manoeuvring coefficients were estimated by RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) based virtual captive model tests. Hydrodynamic forces and moment acting on the hull during static drift and harmonic oscillatory motions were computed with a commercial RANS code STAR-CCM+. Automatic and consistent mesh generation could be implemented by using macro functions of the code and user dependency could be greatly reduced. Computed forces and moments on KCS and KVLCC 1&2 were compared with the corresponding measurements from PMM(Planar Motion Mechanism) tests. Quite good agreement can be observed between the CFD and EFD results. Manoeuvring coefficients and IMO standard manoeuvres estimated from the computed data also showed reasonable agreement with those from the experimental data. Based on these results, we could confirm that the developed virtual captive manoeuvring model test process could be applied to evaluate manoeuvrability of a ship at the initial hull design phase.
This study was performed to investigate improvements in diabetes mellitus by extracts of yacon in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Fifty rats were divided into a normal group and four experimental groups. STZ (45 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally to induce type I diabetes in the four experimental groups. Yacon extracts were administered for 5 weeks. Forty-five ICR mice were also divided into one positive control group and four experimental groups for the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) after fed yacon extract. The control group did not eat any yacon extracts, while Group 1 (GI) was fed 125 mg/kg of yacon extracts, Group 2 (GII) was fed 250 mg/kg of yacon extracts, and Group 3 (GIII) was fed 500 mg/kg of yacon extracts. After treatment for 5 weeks, blood glucose in GIII group showed decreased tendency at the 5 week. In OGTT by glucose, the glucose level of yacon treatment group in diabetic rats was significantly decreased compared to the glucose level of the control group, but there was no difference in OGTT by maltose. In ICR mice, the glucose level of the experimental group in OGTT by maltose was significantly decreased compared to the control group. The area of the islets of Langerhans was increased by yacon treatment in a dose-dependent manner on diabetic rats. Insulin concentration of the GIII group was also decreased compared to the control group, while the concentration of fructosamine, total cholesterol, and triglycerides in serum showed no difference. OGTT by glucose or maltose in ICR mice or diabetic rats, area of the Islets of Langerhans, and insulin concentration improved. Yacon treatment may be a useful therapeutic and preventive strategy for diabetes mellitus.
Recently, the robotic assist system for cardiovascular intervention gets continuously growing interest. The robotic cardiovascular intervention systems are largely two folds, systems for cardiac ablation procedure assist and systems for vascular intervention assist. For the systems, the clinician controls the catheter inserted through blood vessel to the heart via a master console or master manipulator. Most of the current master manipulators have structure of joystick-like pivoting 2 degree of freedom (DOF) handle in the core, which is used in parallel with other sliding switches and input devices. It however is desirable to have customized and optimized design manipulator that can provide clinician with intuitive control of the catheter motion fully utilizing the advantage of the use of robotic structure. A 6 DOF kinematic mechanism that can capture the motion control intention of the clinician in translational 3 DOF and rotational 3 DOF is proposed in this paper. Also, a master-slave motion relationship specially designed for the cardiac catheter manipulation motion is proposed and implemented in an experimental prototype. Design revision for implementation of more efficient motion and experiment in combination with an experimental slave robot system for catheter manipulation are underway.
Objectives This study is to investigate domestic trends of chuna manual therapy on traffic accident for recent 10 years. Methods We searched the studies on chuna manual therapy for traffic accident in 6 Korean web databases. Consequently, 17 research papers were founded. We analyzed these papers according to their published year, the titles of journal, the type of study, the number of cases, the sites of injury, assessment scales of study, and ethics of research. Results 17 papers were published since 2005. The studies on chuna manual therapy about traffic accident were mainly published in the journal of korean society of chuna manual medicine for spine & nerves and the journal of korean medicine rehabilitation. All papers were clinical research include 2 case series, 2 non randomized controlled trials (NRCTs), 13 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The most frequently occured symptom was neck pain. In assessment scales, visual analog scale (VAS) was mainly used. All clinical studies were not mentioned about approval of institutional review board (IRB). Conclusions In this study, we analyzed the trends of chuna manual therapy on traffic accident in Korea from 2005 to 2014. In reviewing published papers, we found several weak points in methods of research and quality of study protocol. It is needed to adjust these problems for development of future researches.
