(0,2) dynamics from four dimensions

Abstract: We study (0, 2) supersymmetric two-dimensional theories obtained by compactifying fourdimensional N = 1 supersymmetric theories on a two-torus, with a magnetic field for a global U (1) symmetry, and present evidence that Seiberg duality in four dimensions leads to an identification of different models of this type.

“…For the choice of R-charges above, one can see that non-negativity of the R-charges implies β = 0 or 1. 11 Let us discuss the solutions we find in the two cases. For β = 1, non-negativity of the R-charges of theq's requiresk =˜ = 0, and for Q a , a = 1, .…”

“…This has been explored to some extent in certain cases such as references [12][13][14][15]. As a final motivation, there is also an intriguing connection between the supersymmetric quantum mechanics of M-theory on a (non-singular) K3-fibered Calabi-Yau fivefold and refined Gromov-Witten invariants of the base Calabi-Yau threefold [16] (see also [17]).…”

“…The non-vanishing anomaly indicates that there must be additional degrees of freedom present in the model. These are readily accounted for in the type I picture by introducing 13 The −2 factor in the square bracket subtracts off h…”

“…These flow solutions might be difficult to construct explicitly, however, because unlike the case we have considered in this paper, there is not a known consistent KK truncation on Y p,q analogous to the one on T 1,1 . These solutions would relate four dimensional superconformal field theories to two-dimensional superconformal field theories with (0, 2) supersymmetry, complementing other such examples [19,[21][22][23][24][25][50][51][52][53].…”
