±0.25-V Class-AB CMOS Capacitance Multiplier and Precision Rectifiers

Abstract: Reduction of minimum supply requirements is a crucial aspect to decrease the power consumption in VLSI systems. A high-performance capacitance multiplier able to operate with supplies as low as ±0.25 V is presented. It is based on adaptively biased class-AB current mirrors which provide high current efficiency. Measurement results of a factor 11 capacitance multiplier fabricated in 180-nm CMOS technology verify theoretical claims. Moreover, low-voltage precision rectifiers based on the same class-AB current mi… Show more

“…Further details and examples of pseudo-resistors can be found in [8]. The simplest pseudo-resistor is a diode-connected PMOS transistor operating in deep subthreshold, as shown in Figure 2a [5,35,36]. It is very compact, but the resistance obtained cannot be modified once fabricated, and it is very sensitive to PVT variations.…”

“…At the same time, large dynamic currents can be provided, since signals are capacitively coupled to the high impedance gate node. Due to these advantages, QFG transistors have found widespread use in the design of amplifiers but also in high-performance current mirrors [31][32][33][34][35], mixers [36,37], linearization of active resistors [38,39], DC offset cancellation servo loop circuits [40], bootstrapped switches [5], current conveyors [30,[41][42][43], Voltage Feedback Operational Amplifiers (VFOAs) [44], Current Feedback Operational Amplifiers (CFOAs) [45], buffers [46][47][48][49][50][51], rectifiers [35,52], capacitance multipliers [35], transconductors [30,[53][54][55], digital-based analog circuits [56], DC-DC converters [57], continuous-time filters [58][59][60][61], track and hold circuits [5], data converters [5,62], capacitive sensing interfaces [63], particle detectors [23] and retinal prosthesis [64], to name some representative applications.…”

“…A transconductor that is linear over a wide differential input signal range Vd is a key element to implement current-mode and OTA-C systems. Some examples of the utilization of OTAs are: wide-band amplifiers, high frequency gm-C filters [1][2], multipliers [3] and precision rectifiers [4], among many others.…”
