1,2-Bis(benzyloxy)-1,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-3,8-dimethoxyacenaphthene

Abstract: In the title compound, C40H32Cl2O4, the two chlorobenzene rings are in syn orientations with respect to the naphthalene ring system and make dihedral angles of 57.12 (6) and 85.74 (6)° with it. The benzene rings of the benzyloxy group make dihedral angles of 75.34 (6) and 83.95 (7)°, with the naphthalene ring system. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by intermolecular C—H⋯Cl interactions between the methylene H atoms of the benzyloxy group and the Cl atoms in adjacent molecules. Furthermore, cen… Show more

“…There are only two reports on 1,2-diaryl-1,2-acenaphthene derivatives with both hydroxy groups protected, i.e., (S,S,S,S)-1,2-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)acenaphthene-1,2-diyl bis(2-isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexyl) bis(carbonate) (QARGIA: Suzuki et al, 2005) and 1,2-(benzyloxy)-1,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-3,8-dimethoxyacenaphthene (AZOPEL: Takada et al, 2011). The carbonate analogue (QARGIA) is more similar to 1,2diaryl-1,2-acenaphthenediol than the title compound, with the dihedral angles between the 4-methoxyphenyl rings and the naphthalene ring system being 60.97 and 54.14 and a dihedral angle between the 4-methoxyphenyl rings of 27.17 .…”
