1,2-Cyclohexanedione Dioxime

Abstract: The compound 1,2-cyclohexanedione dioxime, nioxime, is similar to dimethylglyoxime in yielding scarlet and yellow precipitates with nickel and palladium, respectively, which can be used for the gravimetric determination of these metals. It is soluble in water in contrast to dimethylglyoxime, so that its use is theoretically unaccompanied by danger of contaminating the precipitates with excess reagent or of solubility loss by the addition of alcohol. On the other hand nioxime is a more powerful reducing agent t… Show more

“…This water-soluble vic-dioxime later proved to be a very sensitive qualitative reagent for these ions. Its solubility in water was found to be 8.2 gram (o.o58 mole) per liter at room temperature (42,90) or 17 times greater than the corresponding molar solubility of 2,3-butanedionedioxime and l,2-bis(2-furyl)ethanedionedioxime.…”

“…Dimethylglyoxime is usually used for this precipitation, but nioxime (1,2-cyclohexanedione dioxime) is more popular simply due to its solubility in water, as shown in Scheme 1. 17 For an appropriate choice of condition, the conjugation system generates a pink color change, so great effort has gone into the colorimetric or spectrometric detection of this pink precipitation. Colorimetric solid phase extraction has been proved a successful method to detect this precipitation, 18 the low loading capacity of the chelate reagents, however, limits the sensitivity.…”

“…A Reagent for Palladium ROGER C. VOTER, CHARLES V. BANKS, AND HARVEY DIEHL The Institute for Atomic Research and the Department of Chemistry, Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa THE preparation of 1,2-cyclohexanedione dioxime, nioxime, and its use in the analytical chemistry of nickel have been reported (1,4). Nioxime also yields an insoluble yellow compound with palladium -which can be used for the detection and determination of this metal.…”

“…The color was lighter than (1) and under the knife the sample was soft and plastic. (4) This sample (1937) was closely similar to (3) but differed in the stated analysis-i.e., "non H2S substance-0.40, acid-insoluble-0.10, H2S metals (not Pb)-0.02, Fe-0.005, Mn-0.003, SO,-0.002, COs-0.003, NOa-0.005, Cl-0.0015, and PbO;-91.4%." Total assay was 91.94%.…”
