“…Clostridium beijerinckii NRRL B-593 is an anaerobic mesophilic and rarely studied bacteria which also can grow on facultative anaerobic conditions [8]. The continuous fermentation process with this microorganism in which immobilized cell bioreactors are used have been found to be more resistant to washout at high dilution rates.…”

“…Therefore, higher production rates were observed in less hydraulic retention times (HRT). The objective of this work was to investigate the effects of HRT (16,12,8,6,4, and 2 h) and immobilization material (pumice stones and ceramic rings) on cell growth, glycerol utilization and 1,3-PDO production using immobilized bioreactor systems. By means of this promising technique, production rates of up to 30 g/L/h are feasible, which means an increase of 2.5-fold compared to processes with freely suspended cells.…”

“…It was reported that Clostridium kluyveri could involve 4‐hydroxybutyrate‐CoA:CoA transferase, 4‐hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase, and succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase to form 4‐hydroxybutyryl‐CoA the precursor for 4‐hydroxybutyrate that proposed through a recombinant E coli strain. C saccharobutylicum NRRL B‐643 is considered a potent candidate for 1,3‐propanediol production from glycerol yielding 0.36 mol mol −1 , while C beijerinckii exhibited the highest yield of 0.54 mol mol −1 …”
