1-Butyl-3-methyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)imidazalolium hexafluorophosphate as an efficient ligand for recoverable palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura reaction in neat water

Abstract: The 1-butyl-3-methyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)imidazalolium hexafluorophosphate is prepared and used as a water-soluble ligand in the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction. This ligand and palladium chloride generates a new active catalyst for the Suzuki coupling reaction between aryl iodides or bromides with arylboronic acids in neat water. This catalyst can be recycled and reused for the coupling reaction of 4-bromobenzonitrile with phenylboronic acid for at least six runs with low decreasing in catalytic activity.

“…The crystallite size of the NH 2 ‐BDC‐FeCu MOF catalyst was calculated from the X‐ray diffraction pattern by using the Scherer Equation [1] (Equation ): normalDgoodbreak=/()normalβ0.25emcos0.25emnormalθ where B is the full width at half the maximum intensity (FWHM), q is the angle of Bragg diffraction both in radians, λ is X‐ray wavelength, and k is the X‐ray wavelength, that K is a constant taken as 0.89. [ 109 ] Finally, the average crystallite size of NH 2 ‐BDC‐FeCu MOF was calculated to be ca. 53.9 nm.…”

“…The lower reactivity of chloride substrates could be compensated by a higher reaction temperature affording various biaryls in excellent yields. It is noteworthy that the catalyst‐containing aqueous phase could be recycled for six consecutive runs resulting in just a small decrease in yield [90] . The dendritic ligand 148 again was limited to aryl iodides and aryl bromides (Scheme 51C) [91] …”
