11.1: Polyimide Films Designed to Produce High Pretilt Angles with a Single Linearly Polarized UV Exposure

Abstract: We designed polyimide films for LC alignment using polarized UV exposure. Unidirectional LC alignment with any desired pretilt angles from 0 up to 90 ° were obtained using a single oblique polarized UV exposure. Results suggest that photo-decomposition of polyimide produces anisotropic van der Waals forces which aligns the LC.
