“…I hypothesized, following Ashby (1976Ashby ( , 1981 and Sankoff and Vincent (1977) in relation to native speech, and following my own observations of the interlanguage of Irish speakers, that the linguistic and extralinguistic factors presented in Table 1 would affect ne deletion: style, lexicalization, following phonological environment, preceding phonological environment, clause type, subject of verb, verb tense, presence of object clitic between ne and pas, syntactic structure of the verb, following adverb.
