Dithioicarbonato ligands, ] are known to coordinate metal centres in a variety of coordination modes, e.g. monodentate, bidentate, chelating or bridging. 1,2 The coordination chemistry of divalent transition metals with bidentate chelating dithiocarbonato ligands has been intensively investigated structurally. [3][4][5] This has been explained on the basis of their ability to interact strongly with Lewis bases, resulting in several physicochemical changes in dithiocarbonato ligands, which needs to be established structurally. As a part of our study on the characterization of adducts of bis(O-alkyldithiocarbonato)Ni(II) with nitrogen donor ligands, we report the synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of bis(Oethyldithiocarbonato)bis(4-ethylpyridine)nickel(II) in this paper. The potassium salt of O-ethyldithiocarbonate is prepared by reacting potassium hydroxide, carbon disulfide and ethyl alcohol according to a method available in the literature. 6 The complex bis(O-ethyldithiocarbonato)nickel(II) was prepared by stirring an aqueous solutions of nickel (II)
