15‐2: Student Paper: Programmable LTPS‐TFT Gate Driver with Tunable Pulse Width for Adjusting AMOLED Brightness

Abstract: This paper demonstrates a novel low‐temperature‐poly‐Si thin‐film transistors (LTPS TFTs) gate driver with tunable width for low‐grey level brightness adjustment of active‐matrix organic light‐emitting diode (AMOLED) display. The width of output pulses can be tuned accordingly by changing the number of input pulses, to avoid changing the frequency, duty ratio, or increasing the numbers of the external clock‐lines. The proposed circuit still works well when outputting 10 ms pulse with leakage current above 1.45… Show more

“…There are mature GOA solutions supporting the TFT internal electrical compensation for full panel driving in many applications. [14][15][16] However, those solutions usually use source-follower architectures with compensation period larger than 100 μs. Such driving scheme could not be directly implemented to the partition GOA designs due to the interrupted clock cascades.…”

“…Moreover, the market is growing rapidly. Displays used in these applications require high luminance output to ensure visibility in bright outdoor environments, proper low luminance output for indoor or dark environments at night, and luminance adjustment (dimming) to very dark brightness [3]. For example, luminance in a bright environment may adjust to a maximum white luminance of 500 cd/m 2 , while luminance in a dark environment may adjust to 5 cd/m 2 .…”
