The Asiago Supernova Catalog is used to carry out a comparative study of supernova absolute-magnitude distributions. An overview of the absolute magnitudes of the supernovae in the current observational sample is presented, and the evidence for subluminous and overluminous events is examined. The fraction of supernovae that are underluminous (M B > −15) appears to be higher (perhaps much higher) than one fifth but it remains very uncertain. The fraction that are overluminous (M B < −20) is lower (probably much lower) than 0.01. The absolute-magnitude distributions for each supernova type, restricted to events within 1 Gpc, are compared. Although these distributions are affected by observational bias in favor of the more luminous events, they are useful for comparative studies. We find mean absolute blue magnitudes (for H 0 = 60) of −19.46 for normal Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), −18.04 for SNe Ibc, −17.61 and −20.26 for normal and bright SNe Ibc considered separately, −18.03 for SNe II-L, −17.56 and −19.27 for normal and bright SNe II-L considered separately, −17.00 for SNe II-P, and −19.15 for SNe IIn.

We present an empirical method that uses multicolor light-curve shapes (MLCSs) to estimate the luminosity, distance, and total line-of-sight extinction of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). The empirical correlation between the MLCSs and the luminosity is derived from a "" training set ÏÏ of nine SN Ia light curves with independent distance and reddening estimates. We Ðnd that intrinsically dim SN IaÏs are redder and have faster light curves than the bright ones, which are slow and blue. By 35 days after maximum, the intrinsic color variations become negligible. A formal treatment of extinction employing BayesÏs theorem is used to estimate the best value and its uncertainty. Applying the MLCS method to both light curves and to color curves provides enough information to determine which supernovae are dim because they are distant, which are intrinsically dim, and which are dim because of extinction by dust. The precision of the MLCS distances is examined by constructing a Hubble diagram with an independent set of 20 SN IaÏs. The dispersion of 0.12 mag indicates a typical distance accuracy of 5% for a single object, and the intercept yields a Hubble constant on the Sandage et al. Cepheid distance scale of (statistical) km s~1 Mpc~1 (^6 total error). The slope of 0.2010^0.0035 mag over the H 0 \ 64^3 distance interval 32.2 \ k \ 38.3 yields the most precise conÐrmation of the linearity of the Hubble law.

El personal de ventas en las organizaciones tiene la misión crucial de conseguir ingresos para la empresa, de forma que ésta pueda mantener sus operaciones. Debido a lo delicado de esta tarea para la supervivencia y éxito de la organización, se han dedicado generosos esfuerzos a conseguir un mayor estímulo y control del trabajo de los vendedores. Uno de los más destacados se corresponde con la utilización de sistemas de incentivos, muy variados, pero todos persiguiendo una mejora del rendimiento de la fuerza de ventas y, como consecuencia, unos mejores resultados empresariales. El presente trabajo trata de arrojar algunas luces sobre las siguientes incógnitas que se plantean en cuanto al diseño de sistemas de retribución variable para la fuerza de ventas: ¿De qué depende el éxito de un plan retributivo para el personal de ventas? ¿Qué variables empresariales, de la fuerza de ventas y del entorno en el que desarrollan su actividad, hacen más aconsejable un mayor nivel de incentivos? ¿Cómo se puede valorar el éxito de un plan retributivo? ¿Existen los planes retributivos ideales? Para estudiar estas cuestiones hemos realizado una revisión teórica de las distintas perspectivas, principalmente la de la Teoría de Agencia para, posteriormente, lanzar un cuestionario construido para validar el modelo teórico propuesto en una muestra de empresas industriales localizadas en España. Por último, se analizó la relación de la congruencia de la intensidad de los incentivos retributivos con las circunstancias empresariales y su influencia en el rendimiento de la empresa y de la fuerza de ventas.
