2D and Quasi‐2D Halide Perovskites: Applications and Progress

Abstract: Two-dimensional (2D) and quasi-2D (q-2D) halide perovskites (HPs) offer a number of advantages compared with their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts for electronic and optoelectronic applications due to their tunable properties and superior stability. This mini-Review, at first is focused on the atomic structure and the optical and electrical properties of 2D and q-2D HPs. The unique properties of 2D HPs are addressed in comparison with 3D HPs. Recent progress in applications using 2D and q-2D HPs is summari… Show more

“…To resolve low stability issue under ambient conditions, quasi‐2D and 2D halide perovskites were synthesized by inserting large organic layer into 3D perovskite frameworks, which can not only prevent the moisture intrusion but also expand the on/off ratio of resistance state. [ 32–35 ] Kim et al. synthesized (PEA) 2 Cs 3 Pb 4 I 13 as insulating and demonstrated RRAM with ultrahigh on/off ratio of 10 9 and high stability under ambient environment.…”

“…Currently, hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) have been dynamically investigated for the potential applications in solar cells, 1 light-emitting diodes, 2,3 photodetectors, 2,3 lasers 4 and transistors. 5 For perovskite solar cells, a large electrical hysteresis in current-voltage (I-V) curves has been frequently reported, which is generally attributed to ferroelectricity, 6 charge trapping, 7 or ion migration.…”

“…Furthermore, the large organic cation between the quasi-2D perovskite layers prevents the device from breaking down because of the hydrophobicity of the alkyl amines [36][37][38][39] . Recently, ReRAM devices were reported with ON/OFF ratios ranging from 10 5 to 10 7 , which are still too low to show commercial promise 40,41 .…”
