33.1L: Late‐News Paper: High Resolution 4.4” AMOLED Display with 413 ppi Real Pixel Density

Abstract: We demonstrated a HD+ resolution (1600 x 900) full color AMOLED display panel by applying optical cavity design on white OLED and combined with high transparency color filter. This panel achieved a record-high real pixel density as 413 ppi for mobile apparatus and should be suitable for applications pursuing high-quality display.

“…The individual color emission could be obtained from the white emission by micro-cavity effect and CF. 3,4 We also modified the pre-patterned electrode to improve array production reliability. The pre-patterned electrode consisted of a contact layer, a reflective layer, a transparent conductive layer, and a thin protection layer.…”

“…The protection layer can prevent etching damage and possible out-gasing; more detail can be obtained in our previous work. 4 Above the protection layer, transparent conductive layers were then selectively patterned with different thickness according to the required optical length for red, green, and blue sub-pixels, respectively. The organic layers were then evaporated in sequence, and a thin metal was deposited as the cathode with at last an organic capping layer above it.…”

“…The CF can absorb the unwanted sub‐peak emission thus alleviate the color variation when observing from large viewing angles. The CF array can also replace CPL to eliminate OLED panel reflection due to metal electrode . Therefore, the power consumption was also greatly reduced.…”

“…The CF array can also replace CPL to eliminate OLED panel reflection due to metal electrode. 15 Therefore, the power consumption was also greatly reduced. Moreover, the introduction of CF array saturated the emission spectra, resulting in an even higher coverage of BT.2020 color space.…”

“…Currently the best method to achieve high resolution AMOLED without a FMM is to fabricate a white OLED and employ a color filter. However, this technique leads to higher power consumption and lower color purity compared to a direct side-by-side (SBS) RGB layout [2][3]. The combination of cavity tuned white OLED and corresponding color filter (including black matrix) can reduce the reflection of external illumination.…”
