“…Provocation and process of regeneration of the forelimb of the adult newt, Triturus pyrrhogaster depend upon the invasion of the regenerating nerve fibers derived from the cutting area. The advanced regenerating process for the period of 22 days after cutting off the limb was not only inhibited by the deprivation of the neural agency from the regenerating field, but also caused by the disappearance of regenerating materials which had been produced in the amputated surface of the limb.Nervous effect exerted to the subjected tissues rather in the early period as the deprivation of the nervous effect from the regenerating field caused the prompt arrest of mitotic activity in the regenerating epidermis (Inoue, 1957).These showed that the nerves present in the limb are widely related to the phenomenon of regeneration so far as the adult newt are concerned.…”

“…Of course, mitosis provocation of the regenerating tissues is also due to some factors other than the neural agency, but the disclosed facts in the adult newt showed that the nervous factor was one of the important activators concerning to the mitosis provocation. (Inoue, 1957).To know the course and the distribution of the invading nerve fibers in the regenerating epidermis is important for considering the mode of the action of the regenerating nerve fibers.Judging from the observations of the silver impregnated preparations of four or six days after cutting off the limb, there could hardly be acknowledged that the visible invading As shown in Figure 1 the fin of the implanted area i.s enlarged, and proliferation strengthend regenerating epidermis in the early period of regeneration when the tails which suffered the implantation of the spinal cord, were cut off through the implant (Inoue,1957). These suggest that the proliferation stimulating effect is not exerted by contacting the regenerating nerve fibers to the target cells but by releasing of some effective substances which exert the influence diffusively upon the target tissues.…”
