3D Printing of Carbon Nanotubes-Based Microsupercapacitors

Abstract: A novel 3D printing procedure is presented for fabricating carbon-nanotubes (CNTs)-based microsupercapacitors. The 3D printer uses a CNTs ink slurry with a moderate solid content and prints a stream of continuous droplets. Appropriate control of a heated base is applied to facilitate the solvent removal and adhesion between printed layers and to improve the structure integrity without structure delamination or distortion upon drying. The 3D-printed electrodes for microsupercapacitors are characterized by SEM, … Show more

“…% MWNTs loaded into the acrylate polymer, the electrical conductivity of the composite resin increased over 11 orders of magnitude and reached 46.8 S/m. Wu et al [81] prepared printing ink by milling CNTs in a solution composed of isopropyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, and the dispersion agent. This ink was used to make carbon nanotubes-based 3D printed microsupercapacitors (MSCs).…”

“…Using this ink and processing method, interdigitated planar supercapacitor was created with a H 2 SO 4 /poly(vinyl alcohol) gel electrolyte. The supercapacitor has an areal specific capacitance of 1255 ± 74 mF cm −2 at a current density of 4.2 ± 0.8 mA cm −2 , much higher than other supercapacitors prepared via DIW …”

“…The moderate content CNT ink was extruded and piled up continuously on hot basal with a predefined temperature to remove the solvent. The printed MSC showed a high areal capacitance of 2.44 Fcm −2 and good cycle stability . Multimaterial printing was also demonstrated to construct different parts of MSCs by extruding continuously, see Figure .…”
