46‐3: Distinguished Paper: 4032ppi High‐Resolution OLED Microdisplay

Abstract: A 0.5 inch UXGA OLED microdisplay has been developed with 6.3μm pixel pitch. Not only 4032ppi high resolution, but high frame rate, low power consumption, wide viewing angle and high luminance have been achieved. This newly developed OLED microdisplay is suitable for Near-to-Eye display applications, especially electronic viewfinders.

“…In these days, virtual reality and augmented reality have been attracting attention. As displays suitable for such technologies, high-resolution and narrow-bezel organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays capable of operation at a high frame rate have been needed [1][2][3][4]. Such displays require minute field-effect transistors (FETs) with a high withstand voltage for minute pixel circuits and a technique for reducing circuit area while operation at a high frame rate is achieved.…”

“…In addition, the conventional -OLED display cannot provide high resolution because the high mobility of Si transistors requires an increase in channel length to conform to the current value necessary for OLED devices in a -OLED display [1].…”

“…Recently, in the field of information and communications technologies (ICT), research on technologies that can lead the 4th industrial revolution is actively being conducted. Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality (VR/AR) technology plays the key role in this field [1][2][3]. In particular, to increase the user's sense of immersion, a device capable of providing and interacting with multi-sensory stimulation experiences is required.…”
