5G waveforms for overlay D2D communications: Effects of time-frequency misalignment

Abstract: This paper analyses a scenario where a Device-To-Device (D2D) pair coexists with an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based incumbent network. D2D transmitter communicates in parts of spectrum left free by cellular users, while respecting a given spectral mask. The D2D pair is misaligned in time and frequency with the cellular users. Furthermore, the D2D pair utilizes alternative waveforms to OFDM proposed for 5G. In this study, we show that it is not worth synchronising the D2D pair in time wi… Show more

“…To model interference between users using each of the aforementioned waveforms considered in this article, we follow the same approach as in [9], [10]. However, whereas our previous analyses were based on interference tables with a spectral granularity of one subcarrier spacing, we base the present system-level analysis on interference tables that are defined at the RB level.…”

“…We build upon our work in [10], which provides interference tables capturing the effects of misaligned D2D users in time onto OFDMA-based cellular users in the uplink band. We also draw upon the work of [11] and [12] in order to characterize the interference imposed between entities utilizing different waveforms.…”

“…Therefore, efficient resource allocation and interference management have key impacts on the performance of content delivery in D2D and cellular coexisting system [15][16][17]. For theoretical derivations, only a single pair of D2D link reuse system resources is considered.…”

“…D2D communication attracts a lot of attentions recently, and the potential research orientations include content delivery/dissemination [6,7,10], resource allocation [15][16][17], social-awareness video multicasting [18,19], and so on. Existing researches for the content delivery can be mainly classified into two perspectives.…”

“…The study outcome was tested over the OFDM communication channel assessed using spectral density and have addressed the problems pertaining to both bit loading as well as power allocation system. Bodinier et al [13] have introduced a discussion on 5G waveforms and presented an interference table to explore the best solution to minimize loading of transmit power problems in 5th generation of mobile networks. The study outcome was assessed using interference and transmitted bits mainly.…”
