(±)-6-Benzyl-3,3-dimethylmorpholine-2,5-dione and its 5-monothio and 2,5-dithio derivatives

Abstract: The morpholine ring of the title dione, C(13)H(15)NO(3), shows a boat conformation that is distorted towards a twist-boat, with the boat ends being the two Csp(3) atoms of the ring. The benzyl substituent is in the favoured 'exo' position. In the monothione derivative, (+/-)-6-benzyl-3,3-dimethyl-5-thioxomorpholin-2-one, C(13)H(15)NO(2)S, this ring has a much flatter conformation that is midway between a boat and an envelope, with the dimethyl end being almost planar. The orientation of the benzyl group is 'en… Show more

“…6-membered cyclic depsipeptides) [23] [29] as well as for some 9-, 12-, 15- [23], 16-[27] and 19-membered rings [30]. For the preparation of the 6-, 9-, 12-and 15-membered rings of type 3, the linear precursors 1 have been prepared by coupling α−hydroxy acids with 2H-azirin-3-amines, whereas β−hydroxy acids and 2H-azirin-3-amines led to the precursors of the 16-and 19-membered cyclodepsipeptides.…”

“…2, c), 11b [21]). The six-membered rings of 4aa and 10a (polymorph 1) have a conformation midway between that of a highly flattened boat and a twist-boat, where C(6) shows the most significant deviation from the ring plane.…”

“…The N(4)ÀH group forms an intermolecular H-bond with the amide O(5)-atom and the S(5)-atom, respectively, of a neighboring molecule. This interaction forms closed loops, thereby linking pairs of molecules into centrosymmetric dimers, which have a graph set motif [20] of R 2 2 (8) (for a similar structure, see [21]). In another crystallization of 10a, a second polymorph was obtained, in which two symmetry-independent molecules are in the asymmetric unit.…”
