Abstract: Background Ceftriaxone and azithromycin are common empiric antibiotics for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Despite low suspicion for atypical infection, azithromycin is often continued for a full course. Negative laboratory data for atypical bacteria may assist with azithromycin de-escalation.
