“…Chemical or mechanical activation of the oocyte after ICSI has been commonly done in cattle. In that regard, use of electric stimulation [ 109 ], mechanical pre-treatment [ 80 ], or chemicals such as ethanol [ 110 ], ionomycin, anisomycin (ANY), cycloheximide (CHX), DMAP, dehydroleucodine (DhL) [ 111 ] independently or in various combinations, have been reported. Oocyte activation with ethanol alone or in combination with cycloheximide [ 112 , 113 ] or ionomycin [ 92 , 114 ] following ICSI resulted in development of blastocysts.…”

“…To overcome this problem, bovine ICSI oocytes have been treated to induce intracellular calcium spike with a direct current pulse(s) (Hwang et al 2000), calcium ionophore (Keskintepe & Brackett 2000), ionomycin (Rho et al 1998; Galli et al 2003; Oikawa et al 2005; Abdalla et al 2009) or ethanol (Horiuchi et al 2002; Oikawa et al 2005; Abdalla et al 2009). Because these stimuli do not induce long‐lasting oscillations, they have been combined with other chemicals, such as cycloheximide (Galli et al 2003) or 6‐dimethylaminopurine (Rho et al 1998; Oikawa et al 2005) that interfere with either the re‐synthesis or the activation of the metaphase‐promoting factor (MPF), respectively.…”

“…Electostimulation of oocytes induces the ingess of calcium through formation of pores in the plasmatic membrane. This method is efficient for the activation of bovine oocytes (Hwang et al, 2000;Hosseini et al, 2008). Periodically, repeated electrostimulation imitates the fluctuation of Са 2+ , which is observed during fertilization (Ozil, 1990).…”
