A 183-GHz Schottky Diode Receiver with 4 dB Noise Figure

Abstract: Atmospheric science based on space-borne millimeter wave measurements require reliable and state-of-theart receivers. In particular, the water vapor line at 183.3 GHz motivates the development of sensitive mixers at this frequency. Traditional assembly techniques employed in the production of Schottky diode receivers involve flip-chip mounting and soldering of discrete dies, which prohibit the implementation of reliable and repeatable production processes. In this work, we present a subharmonic 183 GHz mixer i… Show more

“…First references [49]- [53] correspond to conventional metallic block housings and metallic waveguides for LO and RF signals. The previously mention superiority of membrane Schottky integrated fabrication can be seen in [51]. Until now, this technology has been the best proven solution to compensate the ohmic losses from metal-based transmission lines and passive components at high frequencies.…”

“…One of the most prevalent types of subharmonic mixers is the anti-parallel diode pair (APDP) [45][46][47]. In this study, we propose an optimized CubeSat THz subharmonic mixer specifically designed for water detection on Mars [48]. The proposed miniaturized THz receiver, is engineered to operate within a 3U CubeSat form factor, with a total power consumption of 3.15W.…”

“…Table 5.5 shows a comparison between this work and the state-of-the-art for room-temperature subharmonic mixers with different technologies. First references [VDIb,Cui19,And19,RadPhy,Mae11] correspond to conventional metallic block housings and metallic waveguides for LO and RF signals. The previously mention superiority of membrane Schottky integrated fabrication can be seen in [And19].…”
