A 24-Ch. Multi-Electrode Array Allowing Fast EIS to Determine Transepithelial Electrical Resistance

Abstract: Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is a standard method to investigate properties of biological samples due to its non-invasiveness. Multi-electrode arrays (MEA) perform parallel measurements, which lead to higher throughput and thus reduced measurement time. However, implementing a parallel MEA EIS needs considerations to achieve safe and fast measurements. Commercially available devices perform single EIS and then serially scan the MEA. Their limited frequency range and limited detection impedance … Show more

“…It is easy to understand that the subjectivity and the experience of the clinician play pivotal roles in the outcome of the diagnostic procedure, furnishing results hardly comparable due to their variability. However, in the literature, there is evidence of a relationship between bioimpedance and tissue characteristics, including their electrical properties and their physiological/pathological status; the interest in bioimpedance measurement is growing, proven by the increasing literature on this topic [ 34 , 35 ]. In particular, the composition of the tissue can be characterized if the measurement is performed in a very localized and precise way [ 36 ], allowing valuable applications of body impedance analysis (BIA) [ 37 , 38 ].…”
