This work presents a low power dual-mode electrocardiogram (ECG) processor with QRS detection and ECG signal lossless compression. An adaptive difference-insensitive filter is proposed to eliminate redundant information in signal for QRS detection, which helps minimize calculation power. It is also adopted as a noise estimator and used to improve the noise tolerance of the detector. Furthermore, in compression mode, linear predictor with a novel adaptive length encoder is applied to the ECG data lossless compression, achieving a compression ratio (CR) of 2.42 with 1.06 K gate count. Implemented in 40 nm CMOS technology, the processor has a total core area of 6806 µm 2 , with 36 nW power consumption in detection mode and 7.3 nW in compression mode under a supply voltage of 0.5 V.

This is a study focused on circulatory system of music therapy on vegetative state patient after a consecutive 41-day experiment. In this study, Mahler's symphony no.2 was used for this music therapy. Mahler's symphony no.2, Resurrection, is good for music therapy. With various elements in Mahler's second symphony, with string, wind, drum, and even voice; providing a strong and dynamic stimulation. There are some significant changes after 14-day stimulation: both the standard deviation of time sequence (SDNN) of the subject increased while the standard deviation of SDNN (SDNN-std) also increased significantly, indicating the circulatory system the activity of the cardiovascular system was enhanced. As for SDNN, the increase rate is more than 75% from the beginning. This paper studies how the musical-rhythmic features affect the performance of heart rate variability (HRV). A physiological valence/arousal model of such a relationship is proposed. A systematic experiment was performed, subjecting human subjects to four different drum loops, in which was tried to define a set of rhythmic features (and 'factors') that could be correlated with the observed HRV readings. Twenty-two healthy subjects and these four testing rhythm patterns were studied in this paper. The results show that dedicated rhythm can be synthesized for relaxing and exciting, and such an understanding between music and autonomic nervous system can improve life and health by the next generation of biomedical entertainment platform.
