A bibliometric analysis of Halal and Islamic tourism

Abstract: PurposeHalal and Islamic tourism is gaining attention in the tourism literature in recent years. This study uses bibliometric analytical techniques to explore all the publications indexed in the Scopus database in the broad subject of Halal and Islamic tourism from 2004 to 2021.Design/methodology/approachThe authors found 238 publications that fit the function, subject and set criteria. “…Although there has been recently a surge in applying bibliometric network analysis to examine the intellectual structure in myriad scientific fields (Bouzembrak et al, 2019; de la Hoz‐Correa et al, 2018; Zhu & Hua, 2017), to the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have used the PubMed database to examine the “intellectual structure” of the halal food research. Existing bibliometric research examining halal food has either focused on specific halal aspects such as halal supply chain (Islam et al, 2020), halal food safety (Wahyuni et al, 2019), and halal food within the context of halal tourism (Suban et al, in press) or used different databases such as Scopus or WoS (Haleem et al, 2020; Iranmanesh et al, in press).
