A bibliometric analysis of highly cited publications in Web of Science category of emergency medicine

Abstract: The highly cited publications in the Web of Science category of emergency medicine were identified and analysed. Articles that have been cited 100 or more times from Web of Science Core Collection since publication year to the end of 2019 were assessed regarding their distribution in indexed journals. Six publication indicators were applied to compare the publication performance of countries and institutes. The Y-index was applied to assess publication quantity and the characteristics of contribution to highly… Show more

“…[29] Recent attempts have been made to evaluate the performance of authors with the use of the Y-index [30] by using indicators related to both first author articles and corresponding author articles, including studies in the fields of medicine, [31] environmental science, [32] risk assessment, [33] desalination, [34] global climate change, [35] university comparisons, [36] country characteristics, [37] and emergency medicine. [38] The Y-index, including both first authorship and corresponding authorship, has also been applied to evaluate the top-cited research articles in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded [39,40] ) and in the independent research of China. [41] The first research question aims to evaluate the Y-index (or enhanced Y-index called Yk-index) in relation to AIC/R for a specific journal.…”

“…The greater the value of j is, the greater the contribution of the corresponding and first (co-first) authors to the science community. [38] The first disadvantage of the Y-index is the J(=FP + RP) from 1 to false instead of normalizing falsenormalj=RP2+FP2 to be a radius equal to 1.0 based on the maximal j in Equation (2). Therefore, the Yk-index was proposed to enhance the Y-index.…”

“…Largest number of corresponding-author (RP) and first-author (FP) publications in the ophthalmology category was published by just four of the top 23 highly cited authors (17% of the 23 authors). Compared to the categories of anesthesiology (50%) and emergency medicine (62%) [36] , the proportion of authors with similar FP and RP was lower. The top 52 authors all had RPs greater than FP.…”

“…Documents with a TC 2020 ≥100 were selected as HCAs in this study. The SCI-EXPANDED document material was reviewed, imported into Microsoft Excel 365, and supplementary coding was performed manually for all the analyses [36][37] . The productivity of nations and institutes in terms of publications was assessed using six publication metrics [34,38] : TP: total number of publications, IP: number of singleinstitution publications (IP I ) or single-country authored publications (IP C ), CP: number of inter-institutionally collaborative publications (CP I ) or internationally collaborative publications (CP C ), FP: number of first-author publications, RP: number of corresponding-author publications, SP: number of single-author publications.…”
