A Bibliometric Analysis Of Slums

Abstract

Studies written in the scientific world should be reviewed periodically. Such a review shows the general trend of studies in a particular field and allows focusing on the missing parts of the literature. Bibliographic studies are generally considered from two perspectives. In these studies, it is possible to focus on studies on a specific subject, as well as examining studies in a field or in an academic journal. In this study, a subject-based approach was adopted. The aim of this study is to review entire slum literature on the world from 1976 to 2021, and provide a comprehensive overview of the'slums' that have emerged and developed over the last century. The analysis is used dataset containing 6795 documents derived from the Web of Science database. The collected data was organized, and several analyses such as citation source networks, co-citation analysis, and lexical networks were conducted. ArcGIS 10.4.1. and VOSviewer packages programs are used for data analysis and visualization, respectively. Using the packages programs, the most productive countries, the most influential documents according to the citations, the top authors were identified and visualized. A lexical network analysis shows a strong relationship between "poverty" and "sanitation", two terms often used in the slum research. In the presented review on the slums, the United States, India, and the United Kingdom stand out "Habitat International", "Environment and Urbanization" and "Plos One" are the top three most influential journals in the slum study.
