A Bibliometric and Visualization Analysis of Intermittent Fasting

Abstract: CiteSpace software was utilized to visually analyze the literature on intermittent fasting from Web of Science from 2000 to 2020 in order to reveal the current status, research hotspots and emerging trends of intermittent fasting. The results show that: (1) intermittent fasting research results are increasing year by year; (2) the United States is at the core of this field and has a high influence; (3) intermittent fasting research is mainly concentrated in the fields of nutrition, cell biology and kinesiology… Show more

“…CiteSpace software is also an important analytical and visualization tool in the field of scientometrics and was developed by Professor Chaomei Chen. 25 , 26 In this study, CiteSpace (version 6.1. R3) was used to calculate the centralities between countries and institutions and analyze dual maps of journals, cocited references, reference bursts, reference timelines, and keyword bursts.…”

“…75 The most widely studied IF are alternative day fasting (ADF) and timerestricted fasting/eating (TRF/TRE). 76 ADF is a fasting pattern in which fasting days and feeding days at 24-h intervals are alternated. 42 This alternating fasting behavior causes widespread systemic effects, resulting in changes in metabolic pathways, cellular processes, and hormone secretion, 77 such as lower blood glucose and higher circulating ketones, as well as increased secretion of glucagon and growth hormone, and ultimately causes a reduction in body weight, visceral fat, lipid levels, and improvements in circulating inflammation and oxidative stress.…”

“…[ 15 ] It is primarily based on co-citation theory and uses a Pathfinder algorithm to accurately capture the evolutionary critical paths and knowledge inflection point of the target scientific field. [ 16 ] CiteSpace can present the development process and structural relationship of a research topic in the form of images, because it has the dual nature and characteristics of “graph and “spectrum.” [ 17 ] Therefore, a graphic visualization as well as the network, structure, and derivation of many hidden complex relationships between knowledge units or clusters can be presented. [ 18 ] This study used CiteSpace to systematically analyze the literature on ESWT for tendinopathies in terms of publication trends and characteristics of the core authors, highly cited literature, journals, and keywords, to examine research hotspots and trends in ESWT for tendinopathies.…”
