A case-driven methodology for applying the MNM service model

Abstract: Companies of all industrial sectors depend increasingly on their IT infrastructure and therefore demand more features, security and reliability regarding the provided IT services. Consequently, a user-and quality-oriented service management is desperately needed to fulfill the posed requirements. The previously developed MNM service model contributed to this research area by specifying a formal framework which helps creating a user-and quality-oriented model of a specific service. Thus, the MNM service model s… Show more

“…The MNM service model [7][8] [9] is a generic model for IT service management, defining service-related terms, concepts, and structuring rules. It allows to model specific services for the purpose to analyse needs and demands in regard to an appropriate service management with quality of service (QoS) guarantees.…”

“…Figure 2 shows this manifold provider hierarchy as a service chain (as e.g. described in [4]) for the complete process of provisioning a Grid resource from the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre LRZ to a community, traversing the service layers until As in heterogenous domains at first policies and management architectures may be different, monitoring is only possible in a homogenous domain at one layer. Nevertheless, from the view of a customer application at an application layer, a monitoring of all leased services and resources must be possible, even when a compound service is cross-provisioned from heterogenous domains.…”

“…Such a coupling implements a service logic (as specified in [4]) and realizes a tight coupling of a resources lifecycle, a (virtual) service and a VO management, as demanded in [8].…”

“…However, this model also can not describe complex communication relationship in multimedia services. Garschhaniner and Hauck [4,5] proposed a description model from view of the role one person assumed in the life cycle of the service. It simnlates relationship among nsers, service providers and service developers and focuses on providing consistent comprehension to the sanie service.…”
