A chromium(III) oxide-coated steel wire prepared by arc ion plating for use in solid-phase microextraction of aromatic hydrocarbons

Abstract: The authors introduce an arc ion plating method for the deposition of chromium oxide (CrO) on a steel wire substrate, and its use as a coating for solid phase microextraction. The coating has a micro- and nano-scaled structure after annealing at 700 °C. It is found that CrO exhibits a good extraction capability for the aromatic hydrocarbons naphthalene, anthracene, fluorene, fluoranthene, and biphenyl. Following desorption by high temperature at 300 °C, the analytes were quantified by gas chromatography (GC). … Show more

“…Recently, many types of SPME fiber coatings have been developed, such as polymer , carbon , and inorganic materials as well as nanomaterials . The poor thermal and chemical stability of organic materials are not conducive to the direct or indirect SPME injection technology because of their short service life.…”

“…The core part of SPME is fiber coating. 79 Various types of fiber coatings have been used to fabricate SPME, such as carbon fibers (CFs), metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and hollow carbon nanobubbles. 80–82 Among them, PDMS coatings 83 have been widely used in the extraction of BTEX and PAHs in various environments.…”

“…This sequential process is a key difference between CVD and ALD, which consequently makes ALD a self-limiting reaction without gas phase reactions and gives unique characteristics to this method ( Hashemi Astaneh et al, 2021 ). ALD has several obvious advantages such as precise thickness control, nano-precision coating, exceptional large-area uniformity, strong bonding strength, low growth temperature, excellent reproducibility, and resistance to sensitive substrates’ applicability ( Liu H. et al, 2017 ). For 3D printing implants with complex porous structure, ALD can perfectly form a uniform film on its surface ( Hashemi Astaneh et al, 2021 ).…”
