“…is finding is similar to the studies carried out in New York, USA 1% [25], but it was slightly higher than the study carried out in Mesologgi General Hospital 0.43% [7]. On the contrary, the current study finding is lower than the studies done in Siddhartha Medical College, in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad, 5.9% [12], and in RNT Medical College, Udaipur, India, 5.38% [10]. e reason might be due to the difference in the study population that those who were above 70 years old patients with the mean age was 69.5 years were in the sample in Mesologgi General Hospital [7].…”

“…It is recorded to be 1-3% in most hospitals with an impact of mortality rate as high as 45% [1,8,9]. Different combinations of factors are identified as risk factors in several studies [9][10][11] and are mostly classified as local and general factors. So, early identification of these factors and doing simple routine laboratory investigations may help in reducing the occurrence of wound dehiscence [9][10][11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…19 In another study by Kapoor KK et al, incidence of burst abdomen was more common in the patients who underwent laparotomy with mid midline incisions. 20 Similarly, in the present study all patients had midline vertical incisions of which mid midline incisions (incisions extending below and above umbilicus to a variable extent) had maximum number of burst abdomen. This may be due to higher number of mid midline incisions taken during emergency surgery as most of our cases were exploratory laparotomies because the exact diagnosis was not known preoperatively and because the patients needed thorough irrigation of peritoneal cavity and pelvic cavity for advanced peritonitis.…”

“…In the present study, the most frequent associated risk factors for development of incisional hernia were emergency laparotomy (67.5%) and history of wound infection (55%). In their study on 60 cases of incisional hernia, Kapoor and Hassan reported that in 87% of the cases, the original operation was done on an emergency basis due to peritonitis or intestinal obstruction [12] . Singh et al, found that the most common risk factor for development of incisional hernia was the occurrence of wound infection after the previous surgery that was found in 46.67% of their cases [10] .…”
