A closed form solution for the vulcanization prediction of NR cured with sulphur and different accelerators

Abstract: The paper presents a novel efficient closed form approach to determine the degree of vulcanization of natural rubber (NR) vulcanized with sulphur in presence of different accelerators. The general reaction scheme proposed by Han and co-workers for vulcanized sulphur NR is re-adapted and suitably modified taking into account the single contributions of the different accelerators, focusing in particular on some experimental data, where NR was vulcanized at different temperatures (from 150 to (Formula presented. … Show more

“…Basing on the experimental results obtained, a modification of the mathematical model proposed by Han and already presented by the authors is implemented in an interactive software based on Graphical User Interface (GUI) technology, where the optimization of the numerical approach on experimental data is not performed with standard best fitting, but by means of a very intuitive trial and error procedure, favored by the interaction of the program with the user by means of sliders.…”

“…As known in rubber processing, it is a necessity to add curing agents such as sulfur or peroxide, activator, and accelerator in order to enhance the mechanical properties of the rubber products. Though, sulfur is used in the vulcanization system due to low cost and toxicity, accelerator, and activator chemicals that are necessarily used in the sulfur vulcanization system have disadvantage connected with the formation of nitrosamine and the containing heavy metals, respectively .
