A cloud-based service-oriented architecture to unlock smart energy services

Abstract: In a modern smart energy system with increased penetration of renewable energy resources, the amount of data from various sources is growing significantly. Such systems require complex algorithms and controlling on-demand. These requirements can be addressed with on-demand scalability and a stable system. Nowadays, on-demand scalability is achieved by considering cloud computing and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. This paper presents a cloud-based platform based on service-oriented architecture to perfo… Show more

“…Emerging business prospects from the IoT are driving private, public, and hybrid cloud providers to integrate their systems with IoT devices equipped with sensors and actuators to provide a new level of service infrastructure to improve the quality and security of power supply. At the same time, with the advent of IoT, the continued evolution of cloud computing has led to a dramatic change in the design, implementation, and delivery of applications [51,52].…”

“…Haghgoo et al [51] presents a cloud-based platform based on a service-oriented architecture to perform service analysis of smart energy systems. It is the result of the European FISMEP (FIWARE for Smart Energy Platform) project to demonstrate an information and communication technology (ICT) architecture for the smart energy sector.…”

“…This can facilitate the realization of services, such as energy management, service restoration, network configuration, and monitoring. [19] The service paradigm is more abstract and therefore more complex compared to the earlier operational technologies, but it is necessary to reach convergence between information technologies and operational technologies (IT/OT). The complexity can be problematic in control or protection activities that require deterministic, millisecond-grade response times.…”

“…The contexts will be mapped onto a map that will outline the application as a whole (Hannousse & Yahiouche, 2021). Unlike a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) or layered architecture (Hustad & Olsen, 2021;Haghgoo et al, 2021) a specific context also involves the inclusion of data model and data, all specific to that context (Lenarduzzi et al, 2020). Microservices outline functionality of the process logic and do not exclusively refer to layers with a technical role, laid horizontally, from user interaction to the database (Mazzara et al, 2021).…”
