A Cocktail of Industrial Chemicals in Lipstick and Nail Polish: Profiles and Health Implications

Abstract: Beauty products contain various industrial chemicals to increase their functionality and appearance. The frequent use of beauty products may increase human exposure to industrial chemicals, but to date, their chemical components remain poorly characterized. “…Beyond a rather small group of plasticizers and antioxidants included in the present study, there exists a large suite of plastic additives currently in use. Our recent studies have revealed various types of plastic additives in ambient fine particulate matter, house dust, personal care products, and human hand wipes, including plasticizers, synthetic antioxidants, UV stabilizers, PAEs, OPEs, and bisphenols. ,, These findings indicate the very complexity of plastic additives humans are likely exposed to.
