A compact CPW fed slot antenna for ultra wide band applications

Abstract: A printed compact coplanar waveguide fed triangular slot antenna for ultra wide band (UWB) communication systems is presented. The antenna comprises of a triangular slot loaded ground plane with a T shaped strip radiator to enhance the bandwidth and radiation. This compact antenna has a dimension of 26 mm × 26 mm when printed on a substrate of dielectric constant 4.4 and thickness 1.6 mm. Design equations are implemented and validated for different substrates. The pulse distortion is insignificant and is verif… Show more

“…Various CPW-fed antennas have been reported in literature such as multiband [3][4][5][6][7][8], CPW antennas with added strip for WLAN [9][10][11], and asymmetric coplanar strip antennas [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. However, majority of these designs have large antenna dimensions and do not cover all the major bands of WLAN/WiMAX/LTE [13][14][15][16]18].…”

“…In order to reduce size and avoid the complexity, major overlapped slots have been introduced in the proposed antenna design along with two strips above and below the main radiating patch. Compact ground plane length ratio to the overall length of the antenna is optimized to achieve 50 Ohm impedance matching by adjusting the microstrip width and gap between the microstrip and the sides of the ground plane [6,8,24]. In Table 1, a comparison is made between different existing CPW designs found in literature and our proposed work.…”

“…Creating a wide slot on the ground is another method to enhance impedance bandwidth of the antenna. Recently, many wide slot antennas have been reported for broadband applications such as rectangular slot [7,8], triangular slot [9], rotated slot [10] and pentagonal slot [11]. The addition of tuning element with a proper dimension and location is another approach to improve the performance of a wide slot antenna.…”
