A Compact Single-Layer Dual-Band Microstrip Antenna for Satellite Applications

Abstract: In this letter, a compact single-layer, single-feed, dual-frequency microstrip antenna with a high frequency ratio is proposed. This antenna has a broadside and symmetrical radiation patterns suitable for space-borne applications. The prototype was fabricated on a Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate with a relative permittivity of 2.2 and thickness of 1.58 mm. The dual-band behavior is achieved by a shorting pin at 1.7-1.706 and 8.011-8.277 GHz with the frequency ratio of 4.75. In addition, the antenna is miniatur… Show more

“…In past years, the dual-band linear polarization antennas used in wireless communication systems were achieved by cutting a slot in the patch [6], [7], using multilayer stacked patch [8], [9], introducing the short-circuited split ring resonators [10], and using a proximitycoupled patch [11]. However, the bandwidths in the lower and higher bands are narrow (1-6%).…”

“…These includes decrease substrate permittivity, cutting slot on patch, increase patch height, use of various impedance matching techniques, feeding techniques and use of multiple resonators. In this paper we design a patch antenna for circular polarization and dual band [6] with compact size. It is having co-axial feeding, design on glass epoxy substrate to give wide bandwidth and maximum gain as well as radiating efficiency [3].…”

“…At present use of microstrip antennas are increasing day by day in wireless communication due to their low profile structure and also other advantage of low cost, light weight, ease of fabrication [2], conformable to mounting surface and being integrated in active devices [3]. Microstrip patch antenna may be square, rectangular, circular, elliptical, triangular and other desired configuration [4].…”
