A Comparison of Dielectric Properties of Palm Oil with Mineral and Synthetic Types Insulating Liquid under Temperature Variation

Abstract: Abstract. Mineral oil is known to have a low biodegradability level and high susceptibility to the fire. These conditions motivate many researchers to look for alternative sources for insulating oil. One of the alternative liquid is palm oil. To verify the suitability of using palm oil as an insulating liquid, it is important to make dielectric properties comparison with the commonly used insulating liquid. This paper presents comparison of temperature effect on dielectric properties of palm oil with mineral t… Show more

“…The viscosity of synthesized RBDPO, RBDPO Olein is 21 mm 2 /s. The value is lower than the RBDPO and even lower than natural ester and synthetic ester [28,29]. PKO Alkyl ester and PFAE have much lower viscosity than natural ester and synthetic ester where the range of viscosity is between 3.2 mm Table 2.…”

“…According to previous works, palm based oil has a wide range of viscosity [14,15,[20][21][22][23][24][27][28][29][30] Table 2 [25,26]. The viscosity of RBDPO could be further reduced by reducing the amount of fat content [24,27].…”

“…The performance of transformers depends substantially on the condition of its liquid and solid insulation. Insulating liquids provide two purposes in the transformer operation, as an insulation material and the cooling medium [1]. The lifetime of a transformer is mainly determined from the degradation of the insulation paper due to thermal-depolymerization and mechanical stress [2].…”

“…The transformer insulation paper was wrapped around the copper metal strip. Firstly, the natural ester samples in the glass bottles were heated without sealing at a temperature of 100 • C for 24 h in order to ensure the same initial conditions [1,15,16]. Then the transformer insulation paper and copper metal strip were put into heat-resistant and sealed glass bottles.…”
