A Comprehensive Review of Free Radicals, Antioxidants, and Their Relationship with Human Ailments

Abstract: The role of free radicals in various human ailments is well established. Still, the researchers continue to emphasize the involvement of free radicals in these disorders. Antioxidants are being used as an effective tool as a defense against disorders caused by free radicals. This review presents brief detail regarding the nature, types, and sources of free radicals that are of pharmacological interest. A summary of the antioxidants, along with possible mechanisms, has also been incorporated. The role of free r… Show more

“…Long term administration of DLM in rabbits initiated significant oxidative DNA harm in the liver and kidney and fundamentally decreased plasma CAT, GSH, and TAC levels. [39][40][41] The serum levels of TNF-α, lactate dehydrogenase, alanine transaminase, and aspartate aminotransferase were fundamentally increased by subacute administration of DLM in rats. In the present examination, the prior treatment with Sita and additionally Cur at a dose of 100 mg/kg for each, decreased the serum kidney damage markers.…”

“…The pesticide DML was accounted for in expanding MDA in renal tissue, serum creatinine, and urea, while cell antioxidative markers were diminished in rats. Long term administration of DLM in rabbits initiated significant oxidative DNA harm in the liver and kidney and fundamentally decreased plasma CAT, GSH, and TAC levels . The serum levels of TNF‐α, lactate dehydrogenase, alanine transaminase, and aspartate aminotransferase were fundamentally increased by subacute administration of DLM in rats.…”

“…Due to the necrosis of the renal tubular cells, the water reabsorption capacity decreases in the manifold, thus increasing the loss of fluid through urine (Corman, Roinel, & De Rouffignac, ). The increase in the kidney ratio value may be due to edema of renal parenchyma, which is caused by administration of GM that triggers renal inflammation (Faubel, Patel, Lockhart, & Cadnapaphornchai, ; Sharma, Gupta, & Sharma, ).…”
