A contourlet transform based algorithm for real-time video encoding

Abstract: In recent years, real-time video communication over the internet has been widely utilized for applications like video conferencing. Streaming live video over heterogeneous IP networks, including wireless networks, requires video coding algorithms that can support various levels of quality in order to adapt to the network end-to-end bandwidth and transmitter/receiver resources. In this work, a scalable video coding and compression algorithm based on the Contourlet Transform is proposed. The algorithm allows for… Show more

“…In recent times, certain schemes have been stimulated to utilise CT for image coding, image watermarking, and content based image retrieval [14, 15]. Many researches approved that; CT gave a superior efficiency in compression over other techniques as wavelet and curvelet [18, 19]. CT does not yield the ability of image coding, but it is able to reallocate the main spot of the image's features.…”

“…CT can retain image details in a better way, due to its avoidance of down sampling to a high‐frequency subband, and the coefficient is sparser than it of wavelet transform [18]. Many types of research approved that CT gave a superior efficiency in compression over other techniques such as wavelet and curvelet [19]. After decomposition, LFSC coefficients are employed as the image signature because this portion contains the approximation version of the original image.…”
