Pollen morphological descriptions and photographic illustrations based on light microscope analyses are provided for over 60 angiosperm taxa that occur in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest communities in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. The resulting pollen taxonomy contributes to the study of Holocene mesotherm rainforest floras in coastal and tableland New South Wales and, because many species are or will have been shared with other vegetation types in the past, also to the floras of other botanical regions. Taxonomic relationships assessed on pollen morphology are discussed for several taxa.

A taxonomic account of Acanthaceae subfamily Nelsonioideae based on morphological and phylogenetic data treats five genera with 172 species: Anisosepalum (3), Elytraria (21), Nelsonia (2), Saintpauliopsis (1), and Staurogyne (145). Two other currently recognized genera, Gynocraterium and Ophiorrhiziphyllon, are included within Staurogyne, and the new combinations, Staurogyne guianensis and S. macrobotrya, are proposed. Probable apomorphic and other diagnostic macro-and micromorphological characters are discussed relative to the subfamily and genera. Characters of the inflorescence, androecium (especially pollen), and seed show important phylogenetic and diagnostic signal. A key to genera, generic descriptions and discussions, illustrations, and distribution maps are provided. Lists of currently recognized species for each genus include synonymies and distributions by country.

O presente trabalho consiste no levantamento das espécies de Amasonia L.f. para o Brasil, com base em observações de campo e estudo de espécimes de herbários, além de fotografias de tipos e de documentação bibliográfica. Amasonia é um gênero neotropical, com distribuição na América do Sul e Antilhas. Oito espécies são reconhecidas para o gênero (A. angustifolia, A. arborea, A. calycina, A. campestris, A. hirta, A. lasiocaulos, A. obovata e A. spruceana) ocorrendo principalmente nas regiões amazônica e centro-oeste do país. Chave para a identificação, ilustrações e dados de floração e frutificação são fornecidos.
