A Controller Area Network Bus Transceiver Behavioral Model for Network Design and Simulation

Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to develop reliable and affordable tools and methodologies for the design, simulation, and fault analysis of controller area network (CAN) bus networks. In this paper, a behavioral model of a CAN bus transceiver is proposed and experimentally verified. Moreover, we developed a methodology to efficiently manage the trade-off concerning accuracy, simulation speed, and convergence issues which are usually involved in the simulation of large CAN bus networks. To this aim, three di… Show more

“…In (L.A. Barragan & Burdio, 2008) authors use both VHDL and VHDL-AMS to model digital and mixed-signal circuits thought to reduce conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) caused by resonant inverters in induction heating home appliances. A methodology for the design, the simulation and the fault analysis of a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus is presented in (W. Prodanov & Buzas, 2009). In (Santarini, 2006) VHDL-AMS is suggested to model complex electronic systems interacting inside the automotive environment, with varying hierarchical depth.…”

“…However, a little deviation of understanding between the CAN controller manufacturers and CAN transceiver manufactures is likely lead to the communication problem among the device [1]. Therefore, the quality and stability of communication are the most important performance parameters for a CAN bus products.…”
