A Cross-Layer Delay Differentiation Packet Scheduling Scheme for Multimedia Content Delivery in 3G Satellite Multimedia Systems

Abstract: Abstract-The design of efficient packet scheduling algorithms, which play a key role in the radio resource management (RRM), is crucial for the multimedia delivery in the satellite digital multimedia broadcasting (SDMB) system. In this paper, a novel packet scheduling scheme, which uses the cross-layer approach in its design, is proposed. This scheme comprises a new service prioritization algorithm and a dynamic rate matching based resource allocation algorithm, aimed at utilizing both the applications' QoS at… Show more

“…Appropriate scheduling entitles the satelliteterrestrial cognitive networks with the ability to handle dynamic context-aware demands, reference [143] proposes a cooperative scheme by guarantee different bandwidth requirements of services. Packet scheduling schemes with service prioritization algorithm for multimedia delivery is proposed in [144], [145]. In [144], the proposed scheme is related to queuing state, link variations, and current QoS satisfactions.…”

“…This in turn puts a great importance on the PS mechanism. Fan et al 6 examine the existing PS algorithms in SDMB and propose a cross‐layer scheme that is efficient in terms of average queuing delay, delay variation and channel utilization. The introduced packet scheduling scheme has two sub‐components: Cross‐Layer Delay Differentiation Queueing (CL‐DDQ) and Dynamic Rate Matching (DRM)‐based Dynamic Resource Allocation (DRA).…”

“…In an informal test this is to first meet the demand of small users, dividing among all the possible resource remaining. A policy of fair share, of course, cannot be applied to connections with guaranteed service, where users pay to receive a certain level of service [50]. Let us suppose to have a resource with capacity C and n service users with applications for resource x 1 , ..., x n .…”
